The Csiki Foundation initiated a social business in SzentÁbráham, a small village near Székelykeresztúr in Hargita county, Transylvania. Hard working people live in a self-sustainable lifestyle, protecting their traditions and habits. It is possible to increase the life quality of these people by using local resources and values. That is why, together with local women, we started a social business. We create and offer for sale cloth from natural materials (cotton, flax and hemp) and we decorate them by hand (with embroidery, lace, pearls and other traditional techniques). The role of this initiative is to generate income and appreciation for those women who still own the know-how and can transmit it to the next generation. By this we give our contribution for saving traditions and reviving the village-side. A well-known photographer, David Botond, from Székelyudvarhely, created a series of photos about our products. An other project is also running: we grow herbs in a small scale organicly. The plants are dried in a home made solar drier and teas and spices are packed by hand. We also produce herbal salt-pads and hip-warmer for healing and wellness.
